Nice Socks is a mobile app that helps new college roommates break the ice and feel more comfortable with each other. Through the app, roommates can find events around campus, coupons to local stores, ideas for "Do It Yourself" projects, and conversation starters and games.
Our research showed that most students who had a poor relationship with their freshman year roommate experienced a lack of communication and bonding from the very beginning. As part of a group of three students, we created the app for my Design Process class aimed to improve this broken system at Northeastern.
We based our initial designs off three personas - all struggling Northeastern students who could benefit from the the application.
In the early research stages, our group worked through many different iterations of the interface. Using our user stories, we created graphs to depict their stress levels and to determine at what point in enter college our app would be most beneficial.
The app incorporates a point system to encourage roommates to continue bonding and exploring their new campus.
